The shrine of Santiago, or St. James the Great, is located in the 11th century cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Every year thousands of pilgrims travel to the city, retracing the journey of the body of Santiago as it was brought from the city of Padron to its current resting place in the cathedral. A sea shell on Santiago's cross symbolizes that one has made that pilgrimage.
